Service Updates

General

  • Howard Pew Park in Waterways is now open. Playgrounds and park equipment remain closed. Find a list of all open parks and outdoor recreation spaces by using the outdoor recreation map
  • Many parks and outdoor recreation spaces have now re-opened. Find a list of these openings here. 
  • Enforcement of the Single Use Shopping Bag Bylaw (Bylaw No 12/007) is currently suspended. Learn about the impacts of this change here. If you are a business owner who would like to display this bag bylaw update in your store, please download and print this 11x17 poster here.
  • Residents may defer Municipal utility payments until July 2020 and waive penalties for outstanding balances from March to August 2020. Learn more about this change here.
  • All payment options for utilities, tickets and other Municipal services will continue to be available online. 
  • ​Upcoming Municipal events are postponed.
  • Property owners can now defer Municipal property tax payments until September 30, 2020. This applies to all tax classes with the exception of designated industrial properties.
  • The Municipality is also deferring penalties on property tax payments from July 1 to October 1 and is waiving all further penalties of property tax payments for the remainder of the year. Find more information on property Find more information on property tax payment deferrals here

Transit​

  • All Transit services in Fort McMurray, including the SMART bus, are operating on weekend schedules, seven days a week, until further notice. Rural transit services continue to operate on normal schedules, with increased cleaning and prevention measures in place. 
  • All Transit services are temporarily free, including rural transit. Fares have been waived to remove interactions between passengers and drivers. 
  • The number of passengers on a Municipal bus is being limited. If "full bus" is displayed, the bus will not pick up new passengers until the next scheduled route. 
  • Transit shelters are closed to encourage physical distancing. 

  ​Waste Collection

  • Recycling and garbage are to remain together (not separated), bagged and placed in a curbside collection bin. Crews are picking up two bins per home on the regular curbside collection schedule. Please use the black and light blue bins for mixed garbage and recycling. 
  • Yard waste curbside collection has now begun. New guidelines are in place to reduce the spread of COVID-19. Please use your dark blue bin to dispose of loose yard waste material. Learn more about yard waste collection here.
