REPLAY: Government of Alberta Willow Square Announcement (Nov. 21, 2014)
On Nov. 21, 2014, the Government of Alberta announced it would transfer the Willow Square site to the Wood Buffalo Housing and Development Corporation (WBHD). You can see a video replay of the related press conference above.
The WBHDC website offers an archive of information on the Aging in Place/Community Village project and an opportunity to offer your opinion through an online survey.
Previously, the site was jointly-owned by the provincial government and the Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation, the federal government’s national housing agency.
On Jan. 19, WBHD hosted its initial public engagement session on its plan for the development of the former Willow Square lands.
Brian Lutes, the president and CEO of WBHD, is scheduled to deliver a presentation about the organization’s community engagement process for the redevelopment of the lands at Franklin Avenue and Hospital Street, at the Council meeting on Tuesday, Jan. 27. Find the agenda and watch live starting at 6 p.m. at rmwb.ca/council.
For more information about this development, please contact the WBHD.
While the WBHD is developing Willow Square, the municipality’s Advisory Committee on Aging provides a forum for stakeholder input on strategies and service delivery issues affecting seniors, deals with matters referred to it by Council, and makes recommendations to Council. The committee, which was established in June 2014, includes members from both the urban and rural areas of Wood Buffalo.
