Julia Cardinal - Ward 2
“The Journey of 1000 miles begins with a single step.” Julia Cardinal lives life to the fullest and doesn’t shy away from a challenge. Born and raised in “Doghead” near Fort Chipewyan, she can’t say enough about both the magical landscape and strong people of her northern community.
Julia is especially committed to working alongside the great people who keep the community running. She fell in love with volunteering when she first joined the PTA. Since then she has been Chairperson of the local School Board for the past seven election years, Chairperson for the Fort Chipewyan Justice Circle and Co-Chair with Region 9 Child Family Service Authority (CFSA) for seven years. Julia is also President of the Catholic Women’s League (CWL) and is very involved with raising funds for the heating and upkeep of the church building.
As a Councillor, Julia believes that it is important to listen well and maintain an open dialogue with community residents. “I look forward to working with all partners and the people.”
Julia is a mother of three and grandmother of one. On her rare time off, she enjoys skidooing with her partner Happy, as well as spending time with her four-year-old grandson. She also enjoys music, walking and our beautiful, long summer days.
Julia is the recipient of a Provincial Award with Alberta Justice for her work as a volunteer in the first ever Sentencing Circle in Alberta. She has also received a volunteer Civic Award through the Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo, and a Regional Aboriginal Recognition Award (RARA) in Leadership.
Councillor Cardinal is appointed to the following Council Committees:
