Tyran Ault - Ward 1
"To be yourself in a world that is constantly trying to make you something else is the greatest accomplishment.” Tyran Ault hopes to live by Emerson’s words as he moves forward in the world of politics. Hailing from Regina, he attended Clearwater Elementary and Fort McMurray Composite High School in Fort McMurray. Tyran got his B.A from the University of Lethbridge and then, with a love of broadcasting and education, went on to get two diplomas from the Western Academy Broadcasting College in Saskatoon and one more from Keyano College.
He had a career in radio in both Saskatoon and Whitecourt before returning home to Fort McMurray in 2007 to be part of the on-air launch team for Mix 103.7. From there he worked as a Senior Communication Advisor with the Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo. “I learned the ins and outs of how a municipal government works, and then realized I wanted to be on the other side of the room where I could make decisions that would help my neighbours and all the citizens of Fort McMurray.”
Today Tyran is the Team Lead of Community Relations for Suncor Energy and an avid volunteer who sits on many boards and committees. He was involved with the 2013 Canadian Junior Curling Championships and the 2013 District 42 Toastmasters Conference and keeps busy with the Fort McMurray Tourism Board of Directors, Leadership Wood Buffalo, Junior Achievement, the 2015 Western Canada Summer Games and the 2015 Northern Kickoff. He also has been the Master of Ceremonies for major community events like the Northern Lights Health Foundation’s Spring Fling and the McMurray Girl’s Spotlight Gala.
Tyran is devoted to his community. “I love the opportunity it has given me, my family, my friends and even complete strangers. I especially love the combination of history, legacy, youthfulness and vibrancy that exists here. I would like to see better roads, retail and recreation for this community. Retail may be the most important because it impacts our quality of life and whether or not good people stay or leave. I look forward to working with all levels of government and the private sector to provide better amenities to those who call this region home.”
August 2014 saw a personal milestone: Tyran and his wife, Cali, were married. They have a Havanese puppy and Tyran is a massive sports fan who attends the Grey Cup every year. He also tries to sneak in as many Oil Barons games as he can.
“I try to be true to what I believe in and comfortable with decisions I make. I believe I am truthful, both to others and to myself. I hope this helps me serve the people of the Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo even better.” Tyran was recognized as one of Fort McMurray’s “Top 40 under 40” in 2012.
