The Appointment Process

The Municipality’s Legislative Services department carries out the recruitment drive for volunteers to serve on Council-appointed Boards and Committees. Members of the public are encouraged to submit an application for consideration as a volunteer on positions that maybe available.

Once you’ve submitted your application, you will receive confirmation acknowledging its receipt and may receive a phone call from Legislative Services to review it.

Once the deadline to receive applications has passed, the applications will be reviewed to determine what qualities the ideal volunteer member would embody.

After establishing the criteria for successful applicants recommendations will be made to Council based on which individuals are best suited for the available positions.

In some instances, interviews may be conducted, if this is the case, you will be contacted by Legislative Services to arrange an interview.

If you are recommended for a position, you will be given notice and asked to confirm that you wish to accept the appointment. If you are unsuccessful, you will be notified and potentially put on a wait-list so that any unexpected vacancies can be filled quickly.

Once the recommendations are finalized the appointments will be presented to Council during a public session. Council is required to approve each appointment, at which point the successful applicants will receive their appointment letter in the mail.
