Non-profit Organizations Program

Each year, non-profit organizations have the opportunity to apply for property tax exemptions.

We’re currently accepting applications from non-profit organizations for the 2020 property tax exemption program.

Non-profit organizations that own or occupy property may qualify for a property tax exemption if they are registered as a non-profit organization and are open to the general public on a not-for-profit basis.

To be considered for an exemption, provincial legislation requires an organization to submit an application to the Municipality to determine its eligibility. Eligibility is defined by provincial legislation.

Non-profit organizations that may be eligible include:

  • sports and recreation organizations
  • ethno-cultural associations
  • fairs or exhibitions
  • organizations used for charitable or benevolent purposes
  • arts or museums
  • thrift shops
  • care and supervision of children
  • organizations promoting the English or French language

If a non-profit organization occupies more than one property for which they wish to seek an exemption, a separate application must be submitted for each property.

Organizations approved for an exemption last year will be contacted directly by mail with these details on how to re-apply.

Applications must be received by the Municipality by October 1, 2019 to be considered for the 2020 taxation year. You can submit your application to, by mail or in-person to the Regional Assessor’s Office:
