Winter Art Banner Program

The Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo invites all youth of Wood Buffalo to participate in the Winter Art Banner Program (18 years old and under).

Five designs will be chosen and transformed onto banners to brighten up our community. These banners will be displayed on Franklin Ave. and Thickwood Blvd for a limited time.


Inspiration: The logo for the 2018 Alberta Winter Games.

The theme for the banners is the Alberta Winter Games.

Get inspired by the spirit of Winter Sport with the following sport ideas:

  • Freestyle Skiing
  • Snowboarding
  • Speed Skating
  • Volleyball (Men and Women)
  • Wrestling
  • Badminton
  • Ringette
  • Figure Skating
  • Archery
  • Curling
  • Gymnastics
  • Judo
  • Hockey (Men and Women)
  • Squash
  • Synchronized Swimming
  • Cross-Country Skiing
  • Boxing
  • Biathlon
  • Fencing

Submit artwork and completed release forms to McMurray Experience (9909 Franklin Avenue) by Friday, October 6, 2017

Artwork Limitations

  • Artwork should reflect winter sporting events.
  • Artwork must take up the entire space of the art paper provided, from edge to edge (no borders).
  • Participants should consider scale and distance of the viewing audience and use large scale images.

Submission Rules

  • Limit one entry per resident.
  • This program is open to local youth only (under 18 years old, and must live in the region).
  • Minimum finished artwork size must maintain a proportional scale of 7.5” x 23.5”. Paper can be picked up at the Jubilee Centre (first floor reception), available on a first-come, first-served basis while quantities last.
  • Original artwork must be submitted. Photographs of artwork will not be accepted.
  • Mechanical reproductions of original works are not permitted.
  • Artwork must be created on the provided art paper.
  • The artist retains sole copyright to his/her artwork.
  • Artwork must stay within the theme and limitations.
  • On the back of each submission, the artist will include their full name and contact information, along with their school name (if submitting through their classroom).
  • Each submission must be accompanied by a completed waiver and photo release form, which can be obtained by emailing the Community Strategies Coordinator at or call 780-792-5968..

Banner Selection

  • Up to five pieces of artwork will be selected by a volunteer selection panel.
  • Chosen artwork will be professionally digitalized and transferred on to a 30” x 94” one-sided nylon banner.
