The WinterPLAY Festival is an annual three-day gathering at Snye Park in Fort McMurray with beautiful ice sculptures, fireworks, family-friendly activities and entertainment for all to enjoy. This year is particularly special as we are celebrating the 10th Anniversary of the Shootout on the Snye pond hockey tournament!

The Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo is committed to providing programs and events that celebrate and embrace the magic of winter.

Shootout on the Snye 10th Anniversary

Ice hockey has been played on the frozen waterways of our region for decades, going as far back as the 1930s. Back then, hockey teams from the communities of Fort McMurray and Waterways would compete for the Fairbairn Cup, which was donated by the owner of Imperial Oil, Jack Fairbairn.

This is the 10th year that Shootout on the Snye takes place in its current format. Come down to the Snye during WinterPLAY and cheer on the teams!
