Sign up to volunteer at WinterPLAY and make it a weekend to remember.

Shootout on the Snye Registration and Payment. Shootout on the Snye is no longer accepting new teams. If you belong to a registered team but have not yet completed the individual sign-up and payment process, you can still do so at the Registration and Payment link.

NOTE: There is an online payment fee of $2.40 per player.

Park n' Ride

With WinterPLAY and the 2018 Alberta Winter Games happening on the same weekend, parking downtown will be limited. Take public transit or use our park n' ride options to get to and from WinterPLAY and the Alberta Winter Games quickly. Shuttles will run every 15 minutes (approx.) on a loop to the following stops:

Park n' Ride Stops

  • Main St. and MacDonald Ave. (in front of Nomad Hotel)
  • Clearwater Public Education Centre - 231 Hardin St.
  • Snye Point Park - Hardin St. at Morimoto Dr.
  • Municipal Transit stop located near the main entrance at MacDonald Island Park - 1 C.A. Knight Way

Parking is permitted at any of the municipal parking lots downtown. They are located at:

  • Franklin Ave. and Main St.
  • MacDonald Ave. and Morrison St.
  • Biggs Ave. and Main St.
  • Biggs Ave. and Hardin St.

WinterPLAYGROUND presented by United Rentals

Beautiful ice sculptures and an ice slide make the WinterPLAYGROUND a fun experience for the whole family. Our ice artist will be demonstrating the ice carving process throughout the weekend so you can see what goes into making each stunning piece.

Shootout on the Snye presented by Country 93.3 and ROCK 97.9

Shootout on the Snye has been a community favourite at WinterPLAY for years. Enjoy the best pond hockey Wood Buffalo has to offer! Join us for the ceremonial puck drop on Friday evening.

Skills Competition

The Skills Competition is open to all registered Shootout on the Snye players and will be taking place on the Feature Rink presented by BURNCO Rock Products LTD.

Activity Tent

Stories, arts and crafts and workshops galore! We’ve got tons of family-friendly activities that will awaken your imagination.

Minute to Win It!

Prize alert: You’ve got 60 seconds to showcase your sly wit and stealth moves with eight challenges. Saran Wrap ball, anyone?

Deep Freeze

Don’t let the ice give you cold feet! Come join the staff of the Oil Sands Discovery Centre to see some very cool science experiments that everyone will enjoy.

Story Time

Bop along with Wood Buffalo Regional Library for a fun-filled afternoon of shaking our sillies, wiggling our waggles and sharing stories!

Creation Station

It’s time to let your imagination go bonkers at Creation Station!

Kids Yoga with The Hub

Yoga helps children build concentration, mindfulness, body awareness, and positive self-image. Parents and children have tons of fun interacting during the hour of movement, games, songs, poses and more.

Tipi Tealights

Tipis were the traditional style of housing for most Indigenous peoples living in woodlands and plains regions because they were warm and portable – which was ideal for the nomadic lifestyle. In this craft session, local artist Claire Antoine will help participants build their very own mini tipi light! Free of charge. While supplies last.

Colour Splash-a-thon

Ready for a splash of colour? Using various tools and techniques, local artist Liam Renner will guide participants through a hands-on, colourful adventure. The result? Your very own masterpiece to take home. Free of charge. While supplies last.

Improv Workshop

Theatre; Just Because is proud to present a collection of improv-based activities designed to help you unlock your inner storyteller and tap in to your creative self. This interactive workshop will encourage both active and silent participants to think outside the box and follow creative impulses.

Wild Thing!

Prowl around the WinterPLAYGROUND in your new animal mask! Local artist Margie Cunningham will help you get in touch with your wild side as you create a special animal mask using paper plates and other interesting materials. Free of charge. While supplies last.

WinterSHOWCASE Tent

Enjoy a variety of local entertainers throughout the weekend including performances by Youth Voices, Shekinah Sarfi, Roger Rukeba, DJ Hunter, Willi & Genoveve, Dan Gillies, Sky Seidel, Matty Parlee and Dan Tulk.

Talent Show

Dancers, singers and acts of all kind take the stage for the annual WinterPLAY Talent Show in the WinterSHOWCASE tent. Get your seats early - last year’s event was standing-room only!

Public Skate on the Feature Rink presented by BURNCO Rock Products Ltd.

Everyone is invited to skate outside on the Snye River at the Feature Rink. Enjoy the beautiful scenery and festive atmosphere.

Sno-Activities hosted by McMurray Sno-Drifters

Enjoy snowmobile demonstrations and activities with the McMurray Sno-Drifters all day Saturday and Sunday.

Snowshoeing hosted by Keyano Be Fit for Life Centre

Enjoy one of the world’s fastest-growing winter sports. Participants will be required to sign out a pair of snowshoes before setting out to search for fresh snow along the Syne, or simply wander around and explore WinterPLAY.

Dog Sled Rides

Mush McMurray’s Christina Traverse is offering Dog Sled Rides by donation to her organization. Get your tickets in the Welcome/Information Tent.

Cabane à Sucre (Sugar Shack) hosted by the ACFA Régionale de Wood Buffalo

Enjoy a truly Canadian tradition. Maple syrup on a stick is a wonderful treat on a winter’s day. Check them out by the WinterCAFE tent.

WinterREELs hosted by Fort McMurray Filmmakers Association

The Fort McMurray Filmmakers Association is happy to partner with the Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo for WinterREELs 2018, as a part of WinterPLAY. Each year, local film making teams of all levels are invited to participate in the annual 48-hour film challenge where they will be challenged to make a short film using three random elements for a chance to win a cash prize! These films will be screened the following weekend along with the Hollywood feature film that inspired the elements. This year's feature film will be a FREE screening of Marvel's THOR: RAGNAROK (Rated PG-13)

Friday, February 16 (9:00 pm - 9:30 pm) will be the Film Challenge kick-off at NERDVANA Collectibles, Comics & Hobbies 116 11721 Macdonald Drive, Fort McMurray, Alberta (Tower 1 by Chez Max).

Saturday, February 24 (7:30 – 10:30 pm) will be a screening of the 48hour film challenge screening followed immediately by a screening of THOR: RAGNAROK at the McMurray Experience (9909 Franklin Ave.).

Free Skate at the Outdoor Skating Rink hosted by MacDonald Island Park

Check out the outdoor skating rink at Shell Place at MacDonald Island Park from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, and enjoy a free skate under the canopy.
