An Award-Winning Budget Presentation
For the fourth year in a row, the Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo has received the Distinguished Budget Presentation Award from the Government Finance Officers Association. The latest award, presented August 21, was for the municipality's 2014 budget document.
The award represents a significant achievement by the Municipality, and also reflects the commitment of the organization to meet the highest principles of governmental budgeting. The Municipality first won the award in 2011.
The Government Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada is a professional organization whose purpose is to enhance the practice of governmental finance. The GFOA has established several highly regarded professional recognition programs to encourage and assist provincial and local governments of all types and sizes to improve the quality of their financial management and to recognize their achievement.
The GFOA established the Distinguished Budget Presentation Awards Program in 1984 to encourage and assist provincial/state and local governments to prepare budget documents of the very highest quality that reflect both the guidelines established by the National Advisory Council on State and Local Budgeting and the GFOA’s best practices on budgeting and then to recognize individual governments that succeed in achieving that goal.
