Memorial/Recognition Bench & Tree Program

The memorial/recognition program provides individuals, groups and organizations an opportunity to contribute towards tree planting or benches to remember, observe or acknowledge an event, occasion or person.

Memorial/Recognition Tree

  • $800
  • Choice of tree (see below)
  • Memorial plaque
  • Tree to be located in parks or other natural settings. Suggested locations will be confirmed prior to installation.

Tree Choices

Coniferous:
  • Colorado Spruce
  • Scots Pine
  • Swiss Stone
  • Siberian Larch
Deciduous:
  • Fruit bearing - Crab Apple, Russian Olive, Mountain Ash
  • Other - Ash, Linden, Maple

Memorial/Recognition Bench

  • $1,800
  • Standard wooden bench with gravel pad
  • Memorial Plaque
  • Bench location to be in a natural setting
  • Bench to be located in natural settings. Suggested locations will be confirmed prior to installation.

Guidelines

  • Memorials, once established will become the exclusive property and responsibility of the Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo.
  • Tree or bench locations will be determined by the Manager of the Parks Branch and the applicant.
  • The Parks Manager shall have the final approval on the location and nature of a memorial/recognition bench or tree.
  • Any and all costs associated with the installation will be the responsibility of the applicant, and will be agreed upon in writing through the application process.
  • Memorials should be consistent with their surroundings.
  • Trees, benches and plaques will be in accordance with Municipal standards, specifications and species.
  • Donors are responsible for arranging all media contacts and ceremonial arrangements. If a formal ceremony is to accompany the installation the ceremony program must be outlined in advance and approved by the Parks Manager.
  • Subsequent maintenance and replacement will be carried out by the Parks Branch.
  • If required, the tree/bench may need to be relocated. The purchasing party will be notified if possible and another suitable location will be chosen.
