This summer, there will a continuation of construction activity in Timberlea to meet the growing needs of the sanitary sewer system in the neighbourhood.

E-Construction Ltd. will be acting as the municipality’s contractor on this project, supported by consultants from MMM Group and Stantec.

Starting on the week of July 11, 2016, municipal contractors will begin preparation for Phase 1, Contract 3, of sanitary sewer bypass work in Timberlea. As part of this preparation, you may see contractors in your neighborhood performing gas locates, unrolling temporary water and sewer piping and readying laydown yard space.

An Information Session was held on Wednesday July 13, from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Syncrude Athletic Park Clubhouse. Approximately 50 residents attended, and had the chance to speak with representatives from the RMWB, MMM Group, Stantec and E-Construction Ltd.

Project Overview

In 2015, the municipality began upgrading the sanitary sewer capacity of the Timberlea area, as part of Phase 1 – Contract 1 and Phase 1 – Contract 2 of the Confederation Way Sanitary Sewer Bypass. Over three kilometers of new sanitary sewer line was installed from Confederation Way to Brett Drive. Landscape restoration repaired many of the disturbed areas.

In 2016, upgrades will be finished in the Timberlea area as part of Phase 1 - Contract 3. This work will see the installation of upsized sanitary sewer line and water main along sections of Brett Drive, Barber Drive and Bussieres Drive. Following this construction, landscape restoration will repair the disturbed green spaces in Timberlea. All plans for landscape restoration will be subject to FireSmart recommendations.

Phase 2 will see the extension of upgraded sanitary sewer line from Confederation Way to the Waste Water Treatment Plant in Taiga Nova. This work has not yet been tendered.

Temporary Water & Sewer

While work is ongoing, residents will be connected to temporary water and sewer service during construction hours. This allows contractors to work on sanitary sewer lines adjacent to your home. Brief service outages may still be experienced. Regular sanitary sewer service will be restored during overnight periods when staff are not on-site.

Private Vehicle Access

While construction is taking place immediately outside your property, you will not have driveway and roadway access. E-Construction will notify you in advance of the loss of driveway access, and temporary parking will be made available to you during that time. Please also be prepared for traffic detours caused by road closures in the area, as well as a higher level of heavy equipment traffic in your community.

Mailbox Relocation

Community mailboxes will be temporarily relocated as a result of this project. You will be notified by the contractor in advance of this relocation, and details will be provided on where to find the community mailboxes while they are temporarily relocated.

Garbage Pick-up

Please present your garbage bins at the regular times, and contractors will pick-up and move bins to and from a designated pick-up location. You are encouraged to mark your bins with an address so that they can be returned to your home.

Transit Stop Changes

Public transit stops on Brett Drive will be affected, particularly Route 31 (Timberlea). Effective July 15, Route 31 will be detoured on Brett Drive, travelling on Brosseau Crescent to bypass construction. No transit stops will be missed. View Transit Service Alerts for more information.

Diversified bus pick-ups may also be affected by this project. Please contact Diversified directly to determine if there will be changes to your regular pick-up schedule.

Laydown Yard

The areas of Brett Drive storm pond and Abram's Land will be used as laydown yard space for the duration of this project.
