Designated parking for seniors available at sites across the region

(Fort McMurray, AB – July 31, 2017) – Seniors can now find designated parking at various facilities and parks around the region.

“As part of the ongoing work of the Municipality’s Advisory Committee on Aging, signs designating stalls for seniors were installed at municipal sites over the last month,” said Linda Mywaart, Committee Chair. “We encourage residents to watch for these signs, and join us in a gesture of courtesy and respect to the seniors in our community.”

No permit is required. The designated stalls can be used by anyone age 60 and older on a first come, first served basis at the following sites:

  • J. Howard Pew Park (Waterways)
  • Wood Buffalo Spray Park
  • Anzac Recreation Centre
  • Vista Ridge All Seasons Park
  • Dr. K.P. Wong Water Park (Syncrude Athletic Park)
  • Casman Centre
  • Eagle Ridge Community Centre
  • Frank Lacroix Arena
  • Haxton Centre / Borealis Park
  • Jubilee Centre
  • Ron Morgan Park
  • Rex Terpening Landing (Snye Park amenities building)
  • Shell Place
  • MacDonald Island

Increasing accessibility to facilities in the region ensures seniors are active and involved in our community. Providing designated parking to seniors is one concrete step towards receiving the Age-Friendly Community designation from the World Health Organization (WHO).

An age-friendly Wood Buffalo will encourage better health, participation and security for seniors.
