Fire ban lifted, Fire Advisory issued for Fort McMurray Forest Area and Urban Service Area

(Fort McMurray, AB – June 1, 2018) – The Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo and Alberta Agriculture and Forestry have lifted fire bans in the Urban Service Area and Fort McMurray Forest Area.

Wildfire danger remains very high and a Fire Advisory has been issued, which means no new fire permits will be issued at this point in time.

Items that are permitted for use under the Fire Advisory are listed below, however, residents are reminded to exercise caution and ensure that campfires are fully extinguished. Never leave a campfire unattended.

The OHV restriction has been lifted outside of the Urban Service Area. OHV users should continue to exercise caution and remove debris from their OHV. Residents are reminded that OHV use within the Urban Service Area is illegal.

Use of the following items is permitted during a Fire Advisory:

  • Safe wood campfires in campgrounds or random camping areas
  • Charcoal briquettes
  • Portable propane fire pits
  • Gas or propane stoves and barbecues
  • Catalytic or infrared-style heaters
