Fort Chipewyan Winter Road – Daytime Load Restrictions Lifted on March 19

(Fort McMurray, AB – March 17, 2017) – Daytime load restrictions for the Fort Chipewyan Winter Road will be lifted on Sunday, March 19, and the load limit will return to 45,000 kg.

Motorists are reminded that daytime load restrictions are still in effect on the La Loche and Lac La Biche Winter Trails. The load limit remains at 5,000 kg from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m., until further notice. In the evening, the load limit for La Loche is 27,500 kg and the Lac La Biche Winter Trail is unrestricted.

Load limits have been reduced during daytime hours due to the recent higher temperatures. This safety precaution has been taken to maintain the integrity of the roads.

Motorists are advised to drive with caution on the La Loche Winter Trail as conditions are rough.

Load limits will be monitored over the coming days and updates will be provided as available based on weather conditions.

High clearance 4x4 vehicles are recommended. There are no regular services like road patrol, gas stations or cell phone coverage, so always be prepared for emergencies.

Updates will be provided regularly as required. Check the following sources for the latest information:
