Home Fire Safety Program Offers Free Smoke Alarm Installation to Prairie Creek and Grayling Terrace Residents

(Fort McMurray, AB – June 13, 2017) – Regional Emergency Services (RES) with support from Enbridge Pipelines Inc. is launching the fifth season of the Home Fire Safety Program in Prairie Creek and Grayling Terrace today.

The Home Fire Safety Program is a free initiative delivered by RES to educate residents with a checklist of potential fire risks and hazards within their homes. The door-to-door service also offers free installation of smoke and carbon monoxide alarms.

“This program is more than just checking your home for hazards,” said Jillian Beaumont, Public Education Officer with Regional Emergency Services. “It’s a great opportunity to start the conversation with residents about fire safety in their homes and what they should do if an emergency situation arises.”

The program was launched in May 2012 and has offered home safety inspections in several neighbourhoods throughout Fort McMurray. Since the launch of the program, the Fire Prevention Branch has inspected about 1100 homes and installed 1200 smoke alarms.
