April is Pet Licence Renewal Month

(Fort McMurray, AB – April 4, 2017) – Did you know that pet licences for cats and dogs expire in April?

Within the region, it’s a pet owner’s lawful duty to register pets within 14 days of becoming a pet owner or taking up residency within the Municipality. Bylaw Services reminds all pet owners to register their animals this April.

“Having your pets licensed means that we can return your animal to you quickly and safely, free of charge, in the event of an emergency, or if your pet gets lost,” said Jeff Simpkins, Animal Control Supervisor, Bylaw Services. “Registering your pets helps us better determine the pet population, which we use to identify our region’s needs for animal recreational, health and emergency response services.”

Pet licences can be purchased from the cashiers at Timberlea Landing Building (309 Powder Dr.) or Jubilee Building (9909 Franklin Ave.), from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday to Friday.

Pet Licensing Fees

  • Altered (spayed or neutered) animal licence: $15 a year
  • Unaltered animal licence: $50 a year
  • Replacement tags: $5
  • Pet owners over the age of 60 years can register pets at no cost
  • Exotics, reptiles, birds and other pets are registered at no cost

If you have any questions about pet licensing within the RMWB, Bylaw Services is holding Public Information Sessions at the Thickwood Dog Park on April 7 and 21, from 1:30-4 p.m.
