Bring Joy to the Region’s Families in Need with Toys for Tickets

(Fort McMurray, AB – November 29, 2016) – Motorists who receive parking tickets between Dec. 1 and 15 will have the opportunity to pay their ticket with toys through the Municipality’s Toys for Tickets program. Council approved the program at the Nov. 22 Council Meeting.

“I’m thrilled that we’re bringing Toys for Tickets to our region — giving to children in need is a wonderful way to show the spirit of the holiday season,” said Mayor Melissa Blake. “While a parking violation is never enjoyable, this program is a great opportunity to make the most of the situation and give back to the community.”

Toys will be accepted at the Timberlea Detachment (105 Paquette Dr.) between 8:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m., on Dec. 16 and 19. All toys will be donated to the Fort McMurray Salvation Army, who will distribute them to local families in need through their Adopt-A-Family program.

Toys are welcome from members of the public who have not received a parking ticket.

Toys must be new, in their original packaging and accompanied by the toy’s receipt. If the toy’s value is lower than the price of the ticket, gift cards and a validation slip will be accepted for the difference.

The program applies to tickets issued for timed parking and Winter Maintenance Zones infractions.
