Council approves interim operating budget and looks ahead to budget work in the New Year

(Fort McMurray, AB – December 12, 2017) – Council has passed an interim Municipal Operating Budget of $100 million for the first quarter of 2018. This allows for continued operations and staffing requirements while a budget for the full year of 2018 is developed, reviewed and considered.

“As your Council, we are committed to being transparent and accountable to residents,” said Mayor Scott. “Now that an interim operating budget has been approved, we want to take this opportunity to highlight the budget process and invite residents to stay engaged through the deliberations in early 2018.”

Along with extensive information online, public information sessions will be held in January to discuss the budgeting process, the importance of the budget, and how residents can be involved.

“The Municipality’s operating and capital budgets are designed to meet the needs of our community,” said CAO, Annette Antoniak. “We hope residents will participate in the budget process next month as Council reviews the proposed 2018 Budget.”

Public information sessions will be followed by a series of Council workshops from January 24 – 27 to review the full Operating and Capital Budget for 2018. The Budget is tentatively expected to be presented to Council for their review and approval on February 13, after the workshops.

The schedule of budget workshops, public information sessions, delegation opportunities and additional information will be shared at as information becomes available.
