Crews tackling snow and ice through the weekend

(Fort McMurray, AB – November 30, 2017) – While Public Works crews work through the weekend to make our streets safer please remember to drive to conditions throughout the winter.

Primary and secondary routes (e.g., Confederation Way, Thickwood Boulevard)
All primary and secondary routes are in fair to good condition with some snow pack on secondary routes. Crews are adding salt to secondary routes and will continue to blade snow until the routes are widened out. Crews are performing snow removal along the Santa Claus Parade route and should be completed by tonight. Crews plan to remove snow in school zone areas once the parade routes are completed.
Residential streets
By tomorrow, all residential streets will have been plowed. A number of narrow roadways have had windrows removed as well. Streets that were missed in the Prospect Drive area due to rebuilding will have the snow removed on Sunday. Snow removal and hauling will begin throughout winter maintenance zones next week.
Transit shelters
Transit shelter snow removal is 70 percent finished with completion expected by Sunday.
Sidewalk clearing is 70 percent finished with completion expected by Sunday. Crews will make every effort to remove snow placed on sidewalks through road removal. Residents are reminded that snow clearing adjacent to private property is residents’ responsibility.
