Fire Hydrant Flushing to Begin Next Week

(Fort McMurray, AB – April 11, 2017) – The Municipality will begin flushing fire hydrants next week as part of the annual maintenance program.

Underground Services crews will begin flushing municipal fire hydrants in all communities to ensure efficiency and maintain the quality of water distribution systems, so they are in good working condition for emergency situations.

Beginning next week, residents can expect to see crews flushing fire hydrants in Abasand and Grayling Terrace, followed by Beacon Hill and MacKenzie Industrial Park. Crews will then move to other neighbourhoods and communities throughout the region with an expected end date in September. A full schedule can be found at rmwb.ca/hydrants

Please be advised that residents in areas of rebuild and construction following the wildfire may be temporarily inconvenienced by muddier conditions while hydrants are flushed. This process, however, will not interrupt rebuild efforts.

Some residents may notice water discoloration or drops in pressure during this process. The water is still safe for use. Residents are advised to run their taps for 10 to 15 minutes to get rid of any possible discolouration.
