Holiday Service Schedule: Transit, Christmas tree disposal and waste collection

(Fort McMurray, AB – December 19, 2017) – Due to the statutory holidays, Municipal offices are closed on Dec. 25, 26 and Jan 1. Even though municipal offices will be closed, all essential and emergency services will continue regular operations. In addition, residents can contact the 24/7 Pulse call line at 780-743-7000 with any concerns or inquiries.

Please note the following important holiday service schedules and information:

Christmas Tree Recycling:
A number of Christmas tree recycling sites will be set up throughout Fort McMurray. Please ensure the stand and all decorations are removed before bringing it to any of the marked drop off sites, which will be open from Christmas Day until Jan. 15 in the parking lots at the following locations:

• Frank LaCroix Arena – Beacon Hill
• Haxton Centre/Borealis Park – Downtown
• Sobey’s – Thickwood
• Syncrude Athletic Park – Timberlea
• Michelle’s Your Independent Grocer – Timberlea
• Heritage Drive skate park – Parsons North

Curbside Garbage and Recycling Collection:
Curbside garbage and recycling collection will not take place on December 25 and January 1. Residents who normally receive curbside garbage and recycling collection on Monday, December 25 will receive this service on Saturday, December 23. Residents who normally receive curbside collection on Monday, January 1 will receive this service on Tuesday, January 2. All other residents will receive collection one day later than their normal date of service from January 2 – January 5, 2018. Normal service will resume on January 8, 2018. Residents can find the special holiday curbside garbage and recycling collection calendar at rmwb.ca/garbage

Fort McMurray Landfill:
The landfill will be closed Dec. 25 and Jan. 1, and open regular hours throughout the rest of the holiday season.

Janvier and Conklin Transfer Stations:
Both transfer stations will be closed from Dec. 24 - 26, and on Jan. 1 - 2. Regular location hours will resume on Jan. 3 in Janvier, and Jan. 4 in Conklin.

Outdoor Public Skating Rinks:
Residents are reminded that there are a number of outdoor public skating rinks throughout Fort McMurray. Find out which rinks are opened this holiday season by visiting rmwb.ca/rinks.

Transit Service:
• On December 25, 26 and January 1 Routes 11 (Airport/Taiga Nova), 15 (Timberlea), 16 (Thickwood) and 99 (MacDonald Island) will be operating on special schedules.
• Please note these are the only routes in service on these dates.
• In addition, on December 31st, service on Routes 11, 15 and 16 will be extended until 2:00am.
