Municipality announces Canada Day Parade preparations

(Fort McMurray, AB – June 27, 2017) – To prepare for the annual Canada Day Parade, select roadways will be closed on July 1 in downtown Fort McMurray.

The parade route starts at the intersection of Franklin Ave and Riedel Street at 10:30 a.m. and goes north along Franklin to Morrison Street. This will result in the following closures:

  • Prairie Loop Boulevard closed 7:30 to 11:30 a.m. from Riedel Street to Queen Street
  • Riedel Street closed 10 to 11:30 a.m. from Franklin Avenue to Prairie Loop Boulevard
  • Franklin Avenue closed 10:15 a.m. to 12 p.m. from Riedel Street to Morrison Street (roads will open as the parade passes)
  • Morrison Street closed 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. from Franklin Avenue to Morimoto Drive

During Canada 150 celebrations, free public parking will be available in two downtown municipal parking lots – at the corner of Hardin Street and Biggs Avenue and off MacDonald Avenue (across from Bob Barrett Men’s Apparel) – and at MacDonald Island Park. Parking is available on a first-come, first-serve basis.

Park n’ Ride

There will be a free Park n’ Ride shuttle service with buses running every 15 minutes before and after the parade. Residents can park at MacDonald Island Park and hop on one of the four shuttle buses running to stops along the parade route from 8:30 to 10:30 a.m. The last shuttle will leave MacDonald Island Park at 10:30 a.m.

As the parade finishes, shuttle buses will resume services, picking up spectators from transit bus stops along the parade route for the return trip to MacDonald Island Park. Return trips will run from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m.

All shuttle stops and buses will be clearly marked with an easily identifiable sign.

Volunteers still needed
