Municipality to Receive One of Canada’s 150th Anniversary Tulip Gardens

(Fort McMurray, AB – October 11, 2016) – The Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo is pleased to announce that it is a recipient of Canada’s 150th Tulip Garden.

The application, made by the Wood Buffalo Communities in Bloom committee, was one of 150 chosen to receive tulip bulbs from the Canadian Garden Council. With an additional donation from Vanhof and Blokker, a tulip garden will be planted at Snye Park to recognize Canada’s 150th. Residents are invited to participate in the planting ceremony of 2,000 tulip bulbs on Thursday, October 13, at Snye Park from 2 p.m. to 3 p.m.

“The Wood Buffalo Communities in Bloom Committee is proud that our region was among the selected communities to host a Garden to commemorate Canada’s 150th,” said Elaine Martens, chair of the Wood Buffalo Communities in Bloom Committee. “We look forward to showcasing this wonderful gift of 2,000 red and white tulips, which will bloom in spring 2017.”

The region’s garden and the other select tulip gardens planted across the country will be symbolically linked to a flagship 150th Garden Promenade consisting of 25,000 tulips in Niagara Falls, Ontario. These gardens will also be featured on Canada’s Garden Route.
