RMWB will open backcountry access via Winter Road on Sunday morning

(Fort McMurray, AB – August 5, 2017) - Access to the Richardson backcountry via the Fort Chipewyan Winter Road will reopen Sunday, August 6 at 6 a.m.

“We remind residents that use of the Richardson backcountry is at their own risk,” said Deputy Chief of Operations and Technical Services Brad Grainger. “The culvert near the access to the Six Lakes recreational area is still washed out, and provincial fire fighting crews continue to work in the area.”

There is no public safety concern at this time, but users are encouraged to let others know where they are going. If you find yourself in a dangerous situation, call 911.

The Fort Chipewyan Winter Road and access to the Richardson backcountry were closed on Thursday, August 3 as a safety precaution due to wildfires in the area.
