Registration for Santa Claus Parade and Lights of Christmas Opens

(Fort McMurray, AB – October 21, 2016) – The elves are hard at work preparing for the 2016 Santa Claus Parade and Lights of Christmas. Residents can now get on Santa’s Nice List by registering a float or volunteering for the Dec. 3 festivities.

“The Santa Claus Parade and Lights of Christmas is a wonderful family-friendly tradition in Wood Buffalo,” said Mayor, Melissa Blake. “There are many ways that residents can help to make it an evening to remember, so we encourage everyone to visit our online registration page and take part.”

Every year, community involvement has contributed to the success of the Santa Claus Parade festivities. More than 60 volunteers along with 55 floats participated in last year’s parade, and nearly 8,000 spectators came out to see Santa.

The theme of this year’s festivities is “Santa’s Workshop”. The evening begins with Lights of Christmas at 5:30 p.m. in Jubilee Plaza, followed by the Santa Claus Parade at 6:30 p.m. on Franklin Ave. between Riedel St. and Morrison St.
