Reminder: Council Budget Workshops – February 7 - 10

(Fort McMurray, AB – February 5, 2018) – Residents are invited to a series of Budget Workshops from Feb. 7 – 10, as Council reviews the full Operating and Capital Budget for 2018.

Budget workshops will run from 8:30 a.m. until 4:30 p.m. in Council Chamber at 9909 Franklin Ave., Fort McMurray. Meeting dates or times may be amended throughout this process to provide Council with sufficient time for deliberation.

Residents are reminded that they can participate through the delegation process. From Feb. 7 – 10, residents will be provided with an opportunity to share their thoughts with Council at the beginning of each workshop session.

The final budget is expected to be presented to Council for their approval on Feb. 27. There will also be an opportunity for residents to speak to any motions put forward during this last day of deliberations.

For those who want to review the budget in more detail, a new Budget Reader’s Guide has been created to provide a step-by-step approach to the budget documentation and how the documents work together. Find the new Reader’s Guide at rmwb.ca/budget. All budget documentation has been posted in the Feb. 7 meeting agenda at rmwb.ca/council.

On Dec. 12, 2017, Council passed an interim Operating Budget of $100 million for the first quarter of 2018. This interim budget allows for continued operations and staffing requirements while a budget for the full year of 2018 is developed, reviewed and considered.

As part of an ongoing campaign to make the budget process more accessible, residents are invited to review the Budget Primer document or budget education video. These new resources are like the Coles Notes for the budget, and are a great tool for those with questions about how the budget works and what it means for residents.
