Shape The Way You Have Your Say!

(Fort McMurray, AB – April 28, 2017) – To better engage our citizens, the Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo is inviting the public to shape the way you have your say.

“In the past we have invited residents to Have Your Say on a variety of different projects, but now we are looking to find out how our residents want to be engaged, what they want to be engaged about, where they want to engaged, and what is important to them,” said Sarah Murrant, a Manager with the Municipality’s Stakeholder Relations Branch. “We will use the data that we collect to help shape our new public engagement framework, which will guide departments across the municipality in meaningful and consistent engagement on municipal initiatives.”

You can shape the way you have your say by visiting rmwb.ca/engage and participating in the public engagement survey. Or drop by the Municipal information booths at the Spring Trade Show, Friday, April 28 to Sunday, April 30, at MacDonald Island.

The public engagement framework supports the practical use of the Public Engagement Policy passed by Council in October 2016. Developed by the Communications & Stakeholder Relations department, the policy aims to encourage and enhance Municipal decision-making processes as it relates to programming, services, projects, policies, and initiatives, while embracing such values as collaboration, information sharing, accountability, civic participation, and dialogue.

The public engagement framework and policy flow out of Regional Council’s Strategic Plan. Among the Success Factors named in the Plan is “engage our citizens,” while the first goal of Building Responsible Government, identifies the objective “enhance public engagement in all areas of municipal activities.”
