The 2016 Santa Claus Parade welcomes thousands to downtown Fort McMurray

(Fort McMurray, AB – December 7, 2015) – The weather was on our side for Santa Claus’ annual visit to Fort McMurray, making this year’s Santa Claus Parade and Lights of Christmas the largest in the region’s history.

“I am amazed by and delighted with the turnout for this year’s Lights of Christmas and Santa Claus Parade, which featured the most float entries ever,” said Mayor Melissa Blake. “Events like this are a wonderful opportunity for everyone in Wood Buffalo to celebrate the season, our region and each other.”

Over 60 floats were entered in this year’s parade with an estimated 15,000 spectators in attendance. The municipality would like to thank all the event partners and volunteers who worked hard to make this year’s festivities successful.

Four ‘Best in Parade’ float winners were selected from the entrants, with judging based on theme, visual appeal, originality and spectator reaction:

Best Entry Service/Social Group: Keyano College
Best Entry Commercial Group: Rona
Best Entry Youth Group: Fort McMurray Chess Club
Judges’ Choice: Enbridge Pipelines
