Transit Updates and Canada Day Service Announced: Effective June 30

(Fort McMurray, AB – June 19, 2017) – Municipal Transit Services announces updates to routes, schedules and more, effective Friday, June 30.

Transit Services is committed to making ongoing improvements and efficiencies. Transit users can expect to see quarterly updates in March, June, September and December. Updates will be provided in advance so residents can continue to plan trips on Municipal Transit without interruption.

Highlights of service updates include:

  • Reinstated service - Route 7 (Abasand), and Route 8 (Beacon Hill). These routes will replace the existing Route 4 (Abasand and Beacon Hill) beginning June 30.
  • Route 11 (Airport/TaigaNova) – Changes in service frequency in the afternoon/evening.
  • Route 99 (MacDonald Island) – Minor route adjustment. Hardin Street stop has been eliminated. No change in schedule.
  • Route 51 (Wood Buffalo) – Reduced Sunday service with the last run departing at 6 p.m.

Reminder – Rural transit service additions:

  • Additional rural service from Anzac on Tuesdays and Fridays, as well as service from Janvier on Tuesdays, and from Conklin on Fridays.
  • Did you know that Transit service now runs between Moose Island (Fort Chipewyan) and Fort Smith every Saturday?
  • Register for Saturday service to Fort Smith by calling the Fort Chipewyan Contact Office at 780-679-3600. The deadline for reservations is 4:30 p.m. on the Friday before the service.
  • Fort Smith service suspended July 1 weekend for Canada Day.
  • These additions to rural service are part of a three-month trial project. Your ridership will help determine if these services will be a permanent.

Service for Seniors and Children:

  • Ride for free – Seniors 65 and up, and children under five. (Available for conventional service only, and does not include SMART Bus or rural service.)
  • Did you know that Transit buses are wheelchair friendly? Our buses also kneel to meet your needs and make accessibility much easier.

Canada Day Service – Saturday, July 1:

  • Extended and additional service will be available on Canada Day to accommodate holiday festivities.
  • Extended service on the following routes: Routes 11 (Airport/TaigaNova), Route 15 (Timberlea), and Route 16 (Thickwood).
  • Additional service on Route 99 (MacDonald Island), running every 15 minutes from 7:30 a.m. until 1:30 a.m., July 2.
  • Service from Moose Island to Fort Smith will be suspended on July 1 for the holiday, and will start again the following Saturday.
