Update: Abasand Construction Access Road now open for use by rebuild contractors

(Fort McMurray, AB – July 6, 2017) – Effective immediately, all contractors and builders participating in the rebuild in Abasand driving vehicles weighing less than 20,000 kg must use the construction access road at all times when entering and leaving the community.

This temporary construction access road will help improve safety in Abasand, where there is a high concentration of rebuild activity, by separating construction traffic from residential traffic. This road will also help maintain the cleanliness of public roadways in the neighbourhood.

The temporary construction access road was built to support the weight of all heavy construction equipment however, following conversations with contractors and other stakeholders, a weight restriction is being put in place to promote community safety.

Vehicles weighing more than 20,000 kg are asked to use Abasand Drive to access the community.

All residential traffic will continue to access the community using existing streets. Residential use of the temporary construction access road is restricted.

More details and the traffic circulation plan for Abasand are available at rmwb.ca/rebuild

Rebuild contractors and builders are also reminded they must use the construction access road in Beacon Hill at all times.

Any improper use of the construction access roads or use of residential roads by construction traffic should be reported to the Construction Management Teams by calling the PULSE Line at 780-743-7000 or visiting rmwb.ca/PULSE.
