Volunteer fire department opens in Janvier

(Fort McMurray, AB – November 3, 2017) –Regional Emergency Services (RES) is pleased to announce the opening of the Janvier Fire Department.

The fire department has ten volunteer community firefighters, including Fire Chief Jules Nokohoo. It will provide fire protection, suppression and other non-medical related emergency assistance to the community of Janvier and surrounding area.

“Opening a local fire department is an important milestone for the residents of Janvier,” said Darren Clarke, Assistant Deputy Fire Chief with Regional Emergency Services. “I commend Fire Chief Nokohoo and all the volunteers for their bravery and service, and for their commitment to keeping Janvier and the surrounding area safe.”

The fire department members celebrated with a community open house on Oct. 31, and have already successfully responded to their first emergency call. The RES Training and Recruitment Branch has been providing firefighter training to the volunteer firefighters since the beginning of 2017.
