Wildland Urban Interface Firefighter Training Underway to Improve Response to Wildfires

(Fort McMurray, AB – May 10, 2017) – Regional Emergency Services (RES) members are undertaking wildland urban interface firefighter training to help improve the response to wildfires in our region. This training will include some supervised burn activity that may be visible to residents. 

This training is conducted annually by RES to proactively prepare to respond to any detections of wildfire that impact the urban service area. 

All burn activity is safe and is conducted by trained professionals. 

Fire and smoke will be visible during the training activity and this may cause concern or unexpected emotional triggers for some residents. This is a normal reaction and there are resources available at

Residents are reminded to avoid the areas where RES members are undergoing training to allow them to work safely.
