Winter Maintenance Zones Relaxed Starting February 23

(Fort McMurray, AB – February 22, 2017) – Winter Maintenance Zones will be relaxed starting Thursday, Feb. 23, until further notice. While zones are relaxed, residential on-street parking will be permitted.

Winter Maintenance Zones (WMZ) will be relaxed on a day-to-day basis until such time as winter maintenance is needed. Though it is late in the winter season, WMZs could be reactivated should winter maintenance be required on residential streets.

Notification will be shared on the Municipal website and social media to inform residents if WMZs are reactivated.

Residents are reminded that the WMZ program affects residential streets only. Crews will continue to maintain primary and secondary routes as required, as these routes do not apply to the WMZ program.

Crews will also be removing snow from alleyways. Please be advised that parking is not permitted in alleyways as per the Roads and Transportation Bylaw No. 02/079.

Residents are reminded to watch for any posted signage as other on-street parking restrictions may apply. In addition, the 48-hour parking bylaw will remain in effect.

The Municipality’s priority is to inform residents about the program for snow and ice control and to facilitate on-street parking restriction, so that residents can avoid being ticketed or towed.
