Winter Roads Update – La Loche Winter Trail and Lac La Biche Winter Trail

(Fort McMurray, AB – March 9, 2018) – Daytime load limit restrictions are being put into effect for the La Loche and Lac La Biche Winter Trails.

Effective Sunday, March 11, from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m., the load limits will be reduced to 5,000 kg until further notice. In the evening, the load limits will return to posted levels:

Evening load limits from 10 p.m. to 10 a.m.
• La Loche Winter Trail – 27,500 kg
• Lac La Biche Winter Trail – unrestricted

The load limits have been reduced with the expected warm weather over the coming days.  This safety precaution has been taken to maintain the integrity of the roads. Motorists are advised to take caution as icy conditions are anticipated.

Load limits will be monitored over the coming days and updates will be provided as available based on weather conditions.

Please obey all posted signage and use caution when passing maintenance equipment and water trucks – maximum 30 km/h is advised. Motorists are also encouraged to test their brakes after travelling through freshly flooded crossings.

High clearance 4x4 vehicles are recommended. There are no regular services like road patrol, gas stations or cell phone coverage, so always be prepared for emergencies.

Updates will be provided regularly as required. Check the following sources for the latest information:
