Municipality encourages residents to become Snow Angels this winter

(Fort McMurray, AB – September 5, 2017) – It may be a bit early to think about snow, but the Municipality is already gearing up for winter with the 2017/18 Snow Angels program.

In its eighth year, the program is seeking dedicated, outgoing and caring volunteers to shovel the driveways and sidewalks of local seniors in the community.

“At this point, we already have over 60 homes signed up for the program, and this number could increase throughout the season,” said Nicole Martyn-Dickinson, Social Program Advisor with Neighbourhood and Community Development. “As our population ages, the need for new volunteers continues to grow, especially in our downtown neighbourhoods.”

The Snow Angels service is available for seniors aged 65 and older. Priority is given to seniors with less social support and resources.

Shovels are donated by the Municipality and delivered to volunteers by Municipal staff.
