RACIDE partners with Regional Inclusive Committee of Wood Buffalo to recognize International Day for Persons with Disabilities

(Fort McMurray, AB – December 1, 2017) – The Regional Advisory Committee on Inclusion, Diversity and Equality (RACIDE) and Regional Inclusive Committee (RIC) of Wood Buffalo will recognize the International Day for Persons with Disabilities on Dec. 3 at a public event in McMurray Experience.

“We recognize International Day for Persons with Disabilities because we are a community committed to inclusion, diversity and equality,” said Mayor Don Scott. “Thank you to RACIDE and the Regional Inclusive Committee for your important work in promoting accessibility and inclusion for all.”

“The concept of diversity includes acceptance, respect and removing barriers so everyone is included,” said Bindu Shah, Chair of RACIDE.  “When barriers to inclusion are removed, not only are persons with disabilities empowered to participate in societal life but their entire community benefits.”

The RIC works to improve accessibility, inclusion and independence for people of all abilities. The organization is launching Dear Wood Buffalo, a campaign intended to end the stigma for Canadians with disabilities, at the event on Sunday.

All are welcome to join RACIDE and the RIC at McMurray Experience from 1 – 3 p.m. on Dec. 3. For more information, visit the Regional Inclusive Committee Facebook page.
