Land surveyors will be in Abasand, Beacon Hill and Waterways in the weeks ahead conducting site and topographical surveys. The proactive work is needed to create accurate grading maps of each neighbourhood and its properties for rebuilding and to identify potential drainage issues.
“These areas are some of the oldest in Fort McMurray and as a result we need to update our maps of these communities,” said Erin O’Neill, Operations Manager, Wood Buffalo Recovery Task Force. “Completing this work now will allow Planning & Development to provide the best guidance for rebuilding residents, creating positive drainage effects across the community.”
The Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo contracted IBI Group Inc. to identify and confirm existing grade elevations; road, curb and gutter elevations and locations; as well as the location of right-of-ways, easements and buried utilities on properties within each neighbourhood. The new master grading plan will be in place by December 15, 2016, and will help both residents and municipal planners continue their rebuild plans with confidence.
