RMWB Wildfire Recovery Information

  • Northern Lights Regional Health Centre opens: Core services are now available at NLRHC, including medical and surgical inpatient, intensive care unit, operating room and obstetrical, pediatric and psychiatry services. All priority NLRHC health services will be restored by Tuesday, June 21.
  • Deadline for Team Rubicon sifting appointments: Residents who need a property sifting appointment with Team Rubicon must apply by Sunday, June 19.
  • MacDonald Island Park reopens: As of June 13, MacDonald Island Park has reopened to the public. They are providing two weeks of free programming to residents from June 13 to 26.
  • SMS text message alerts for residents: Text “FORT” to 311 to sign up for time-sensitive text message updates to your mobile phone.
  • UAV flights (e.g.: drones, RC planes) remain banned: Transport Canada has restricted airspace and prohibited the use of UAVs over Fort McMurray until June 30, 2016. Anyone who endangers the safety of aircraft could be subject to fines of up to $25,000 and/or prison.
  • Water system flushing nears completion: Boil water advisory has been lifted for the Lower Townsite and Grayling Terrace. Water line flushing for Timberlea (Zone 2) and Thickwood (Zone 3) is progressing well. Flushing is starting in Gregoire, Prairie Creek and Saprae Creek Estates (Zone 4A).
  • Temporary public transit: There is limited WOOSH transit available between Timberlea, Thickwood, downtown and the airport.
  • Debit card pick-up for out-of-province residents: Evacuees have until June 15 to apply for wildfire relief funding, if they are located another province or territory. If you miss the June 15 deadline, you can apply when you return to Alberta. There is no deadline to apply within Alberta. Learn more from the Alberta Government.
  • Garbage collection returns to normal schedule: As of June 13, garbage collection has returned to its normal schedule, including the collection of recycling and yard waste. Find your collection schedule.
  • Fort McMurray Court House reopens: The Fort McMurray Court House will reopen on Monday, June 20.
