RMWB Wildfire Recovery Information

A fire ban prohibiting all outside fires in the Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo (RMWB) has been lifted. Yesterday, the Ministry Agriculture and Forestry lifted the fire ban for the Fort McMurray Forest Area.

Residents are asked to exercise caution. If you see any smoke or signs of a potential fire within the city of Fort McMurray, call 911. If you see a forest fire outside the city, call 310-FIRE.

A fire permit is required for all burning. For information about fire permits within the Urban Service Area of Fort McMurray, visit the RMWB website at rmwb.ca/firepermitapp.

To obtain a free permit outside of the Urban Service Area of Fort McMurray, contact the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry office at 780-743-7125.

The wildfire hazard for the Fort McMurray Forest Area is low. The status of the Horse River wildfire has been classified as “held,” thanks to the ongoing efforts of firefighters and recent rainfall.  For the latest wildfire information in the Fort McMurray area, please visit http://srd.web.alberta.ca/fort-mcmurray-area-update.
