As recovery continues in the affected areas of Wood Buffalo, a new Progress Report is available to the public.
The Municipality is pleased to announce an updated recommendation from the Chief Medical Officer of Health, following an extensive safety mitigation plan by the Wood Buffalo Recovery Task Force. This updated recommendation will allow for the reoccupation of 439 standing homes in Abasand and Beacon Hill. Residents will be able to re-enter on August 31, 2016. For more information, please go to rmwb.ca/ABW.
The majority of the Birchwood Trails have reopened to the public, following work to repair and clear them for use. Certain sections that were heavily damaged will remain closed until further notice. Please observe all posted signage as closed areas are not safe for use. A map of the closed trail sections is available at rmwb.ca/birchwoodtrails.
The results of slope stability analysis for the areas of Abasand and Beacon Hill have been shared with the public. Analysis by two engineering consultancy firms found no significant movements on the slopes of Abasand or Beacon Hill facing Grayling Terrace and Highway 63. The primary issues are as a result of damage to silt fencing and erosion control measures on those slopes, which will be repaired. For more information, please go to rmwb.ca/ABW.
