RMWB Wildfire Recovery Information

Every Friday this summer is #FireSmartFriday, a weekly opportunity to learn more about FireSmart principles and ongoing projects in the region.

Each week the Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo (RMWB) will share a #FireSmartFriday tip or information about how FireSmart can be used to mitigate the risk of wildfire throughout the region, both by residents themselves and by the Municipality.

“Our goal is to help people better understand FireSmart and how they can be FireSmart at home,” said Dennis Warr, Mitigation Supervisor with the Recovery Task Force. “It will take support from the community and the participation of residents to implement FireSmart throughout the region.”

The seven disciplines of FireSmart – education, vegetation management, legislation and planning, development considerations, inter-agency cooperation, emergency planning, and cross training – help communities like the RMWB address the threat of wildfire.

Residents are encouraged to learn more about how FireSmart principles can be used to make simple changes around their homes and about current Municipal FireSmart projects in the region.

Watch for messages on Facebook and Twitter every #FireSmartFriday and learn more at rmwb.ca/FireSmart.
