Community Gatherings

Community gatherings are being held throughout the region on May 3 and in the days following to recognize the May 2016 Horse River Wildfire.

The format of the gatherings is based on feedback from residents and stakeholders and in keeping with lessons learned from other communities in disaster recovery. The atmosphere of the gatherings will be tranquil, supportive, welcoming and community-centered. No formal presentations will be made at the gatherings and all activities will be free.

The remaining scheduled events are as follows:

Anzac and Gregoire Lake Estates

May 7, 2017
Anzac Community Hall
3 - 7 p.m.

FireSmart and Emergency Preparedness activities and presentations will be held from 3 – 5 p.m., followed by a community BBQ at 5 p.m. Children’s activities and mindfulness exercises designed to allow time for reflection and healing will be available throughout the event.

Conklin

May 10, 2017
4 - 8 p.m.
Conklin Community Hall

A BBQ will be held for residents from 4 – 6 p.m., along with children’s activities and mindfulness exercises designed to allow time for reflection and healing. FireSmart and Community Preparedness presentations will follow from 6 – 8 p.m.

Janvier

May 11, 2017
10 a.m. - 4 p.m.
Father R. Perin - Janvier School

A community clean-up in addition to FireSmart and Community Preparedness activities will commence at 10 a.m., with a BBQ from 2 – 4 p.m. Children’s activities and mindfulness exercises designed to allow time for reflection and healing will be available throughout the event.
