Interim Accommodations

There are a number of accommodation options available for Wood Buffalo residents displaced by the wildfire.

Housing for Smaller Families and Individuals

As of September 2016, the Municipality has determined there to be sufficient privately-owned one and two-bedroom accommodations to house individuals, couples and small families.

Interim Housing Options

Given the lack of demand for the Government of Alberta's interim housing units, there is no need for the 65 units at this time. The government's interim housing program remains open to assist families in finding local interim housing solutions. It is possible to revisit this option if the need exists in the community.

Red Cross

Red Cross has financial housing and assistance programs that are available to permanent residents of the Wood Buffalo region who were affected by the wildfire to help with rent, mortgage, furniture, storage and security deposits. View more information here.

Site Accommodations: Camps/Lodges

A number of site accommodations (camps and lodges) have rooms available for rent throughout the region. View a map of accommodations.

Once you’ve identified a potential accommodation, refer to the Remote Lodge Contact Information to help book the room.

There are Google Maps links embedded in the contact document for you to find your way to the specific location.

Each site will have specific requirements including guidelines around access, facility use, alcohol, etc., which the visitor will review at the time of check-in at the site.
