Lessons Learned and Recommendations from the 2016 Horse River Wildfire

Introduction

After every major disaster, it is a best practice to conduct a post-incident assessment to review what went well and identify areas for improvement. This review was conducted by KPMG, an independent third party, to provide an objective report on response to the 2016 Horse River Wildfire and recovery.

This report is not about blame or liability. It is about assessing the RMWB’s continued efforts to enhance emergency management capabilities, to identify lessons learned and to capture recommendations emerging from this review.

The RMWB is committed to implementing all 14 recommendations and embedding the lessons learned into the organization.

Residents are encouraged to read the report in full. Questions regarding the report can be submitted online at rmwb.ca/pulse or by calling 780-743-7000.
