Soil stockpiling and tipping fee refund

Soil stockpiling

A location has been secured in Abrams Land to stockpile soil from rebuild communities.

Stockpiling the soil will significantly reduce the quantity of rebuild-related material entering the Regional Landfill as it can be repurposed in the future.

Soil from rebuild areas will not be accepted at the Regional Landfill and property owners and contractors are encouraged to use the stockpiling site.

The stockpile site is located at the rear southwest corner of Abrams Land and can be accessed on the west side of Thickwood Boulevard across from Dickins Drive.

The hours of operation are 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday to Saturday.

Soil from outside of wildfire-damaged properties must be taken to the Regional Landfill where it will be subject to the disposal guidelines set out in the Utility Rates Bylaw No. 10/001.

Fees reinstated

Fees at the Regional Landfill associated with the disposal of Acceptable Contaminated Soil have been reinstated now that the soil stockpiling site at Abrams Land is fully functional.

All soil from rebuild areas should be taken to the stockpiling site in Abrams Land.

Refunds

Fees paid at the landfill for acceptable contaminated soil before June 27, 2017, will be refunded for property owners in wildfire-damaged areas. Property owners must apply for a refund for fees paid to date for soil from wildfire-damaged properties.

Please note: In order for the application to be complete, property owners must submit photocopies of all receipts.

Property owners must also sign a declaration indicating the soil came from a wildfire-damaged property.

Submit all completed forms and supporting documents, including copies of receipts to:

Recovery Task Force
6th Floor Jubilee Centre
9909 Franklin Avenue
Fort McMurray, AB
T9H 2K4

Property owners can also send a scanned copy of the form and all supporting documents to recovery@rmwb.ca.
