Draper Slope Stability Assessment

A Slope Stability Assessment was completed by Thurber Engineering Ltd. (Thurber) for the community of Draper following the 2016 wildfire and resident concerns about slope stability. The assessment also follows a broad study conducted for the entire Urban Service Area of Fort McMurray.

All development on or near the slope in Draper has required lot-specific geotechnical assessments since 1999.

The Thurber report completed in 2017 indicates slope movement in the area is sufficient to continue to require all property owners to complete a lot-specific geotechnical assessment before all development permits, including those for rebuild properties, will be issued.

Homeowners are encouraged to download the Geotechnical Assessment Printable Information Sheet for more information about the requirements for a lot-specific geotechnical assessment.

A total of five properties that were impacted by the wildfire lie within the area studied in this report.

Other property owners who have concerns about slope stability are encouraged to contact the Planning and Development Department by email at planningdevelopment@rmwb.ca or by phone at 780-799-8695.

Winter Maintenance Subzones 1 & 2 are active Jan. 20 - 24.
