All residents and businesses encouraged to join community conversation on flood risk

(Fort McMurray, AB – June 26, 2020) – At the June 23 Council meeting, an update on flood mitigation introduced the need for a community conversation about the region’s approach to flood risk.

"It is important we consider all options that will best protect our people and our neighbours,” said Deputy Chief Administrative Officer Matthew Hough. “We know that these are people’s homes, lives and businesses. We recognize these can be difficult and challenging conversations and in seeking to understand a diverse range of perspectives, we are committed to creating a safer, more resilient region.”

All residents are encouraged to visit rmwb.ca/recovery for an opportunity to engage in the conversation. A survey will be open until July 8. Feedback from the survey will be incorporated into an update at the July 14 Council meeting.

This survey is only the first step of the community conversation. The Municipality is committed to providing additional opportunities for engagement, which will be shared in the coming weeks.
