Council completes 2019 Budget meetings approving final budget

(Fort McMurray, AB – December 3, 2018) – 2019 Budget meetings were completed Friday, November 30, Council finalized and approved the 2019 Budget. 

The final budget was scheduled to be presented to Council for their review and voting on December 11, 2018. Council was able to approve the final 2019 Community Investment Program (CIP) sustaining grants on November 28, the 2019 Operating Budget on November 29, and the 2019 Capital Budget on November 30. 
 
“Budget deliberations are an opportunity for the community to come together and help plan for the future of Wood Buffalo,” says Mayor Don Scott. “I’d like to thank all those who participated in the 2019 Budget Workshops, from residents and community groups to Council and Administration. Together, we have created a fiscally responsible budget that reflects the needs of the region.”

The 2019 Budget was approved at approximately $754.6M. Highlights include, but are not limited to, $389.8M for municipal operations, $60M for undrawn debt reduction and a $276.3M transfer for capital purposes. 

“I am grateful to all those who engaged in the 2019 Budget process and would like to recognize municipal staff for their hard work and dedication,” says CAO Annette Antoniak. “The budget reflects our strategic priorities as a region and provides a strong foundation for the future.”

Every year, residents are invited to attend budget meetings in Council Chamber, view the meetings online, watch streaming at their rural contact offices, and review the budget documents on the municipal website. Residents are also invited to learn more about the budget by reviewing the Budget Primer, or information video posted online at rmwb.ca/budget.
