RMWB Christmas Tree shines as thousands celebrate the holiday season at annual Santa Claus Parade

(Fort McMurray, AB – December 4, 2018) – Thousands of smiling residents and visitors lined Franklin Avenue on Dec. 1 to enjoy the annual Santa Claus Parade and celebrate the holiday season with neighbours, friends and family. Spectators crowded Jubilee Plaza before the parade to enjoy cocoa and cookies with Council and the lighting of the RMWB Christmas Tree, as everyone patiently waited for St. Nicholas to arrive in Wood Buffalo.

“It was fantastic to see residents of all ages come together to watch the lighting of the RMWB Christmas Tree --and welcome Santa Claus back to the region,” said Mayor Don Scott. “I’d like to thank everyone who participated in the parade, volunteered their time, and brought the festive spirit to Wood Buffalo.”

Over 50 floats participated in the parade. Four ‘Best in Parade’ float winners were selected, with judging based on theme, visual appeal, originality and spectator reaction:

Best Entry Service/Social Group: Fort McMurray Shrine Club
Best Entry Commercial Group: Inland Concrete
Best Entry Youth Group: 9th Fort McMurray Scouts
Judges’ Choice: Aluma Safway

The Santa Claus Parade Community Committee would like to thank all the event partners and volunteers who worked extremely hard to make this year’s festivities successful.
