Residents Invited to Show and Shine Event for National Public Works Week

(Fort McMurray, AB – May 17, 2017) – Residents are invited to the Municipality’s fourth annual Show and Shine event on May 24, held in conjunction with National Public Works Week.

“I am especially happy to recognize the outstanding work of our Public Works and Transit Services Department, along with Environmental Services and Regional Emergency Services,” said Mayor Melissa Blake. “Public Works Week takes on a special meaning in 2017 as we recognize the efforts of those who worked behind the scenes to protect our communities and infrastructure, and support re-entry and recovery.”

As part of National Public Works Week – running from May 21 to 27 – the Municipality’s Public Works and Transit Services Department is hosting a Show and Shine event to showcase maintenance equipment, share information, celebrate achievements and give children a chance to sit in the front seat of the machines that connect our communities and keep them running.

  • When: Wednesday, May 24, 9:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.
  • Where: South Operations Centre – 140 Saprae Creek Trail
  • Who: Public Works and Transit Services, Environmental Services Department, Regional Emergency Services, Mayor Melissa Blake, Interim CAO, Annette Antoniak
  • What: Showcase of maintenance equipment including snow plows, refuse and recycling trucks, buses, loaders, graders, sweepers, fire trucks and a live radio broadcast by Mix 103.7.

The theme this year is Public Works Connects Us, which showcases and celebrates the vital role Public Works plays in connecting communities.

Need a ride to the Show and Shine event? Residents can catch the Special 66 bus for direct service to the South Operations Centre. The Special 66 bus leaves the Jubilee Centre terminal at quarter to and quarter after the hour from 8:45 a.m. to 5:15 p.m., and leaves the South Operations Centre to downtown every half hour on the hour.
